Meet Our Team

Matthew Lee
Hi, I’m Matthew Lee, one of the founders of The Education Refuge. I am currently a Junior living in Northern California and if I am not working on this project you can most likely find me practicing serves with my team at the tennis courts or in the library reading. Since I believe that education should be high-quality and equal for anyone who seeks it, I co-founded the Education Refuge as a means to supplement the learning of those in greater need of learning support.
Anjay Singla
I’m Anjay Singla, currently navigating eleventh grade in Maryland and a co-founder of The Education Refuge. Ever since my childhood, I’ve had this fascination with tinkering and messing around with things, especially in the world of tech. Coding and building computers have become second nature to me. Outside the digital realm, you’ll find me embracing the great outdoors—whether it’s setting up camp, hitting the trails for a hike, or honing my skills in archery. This balance between tech exploration and outdoor escapades keeps my days interesting and full of diverse experiences. It’s a journey where every challenge is an opportunity to learn, and every adventure is a chance to discover something new.

Reese Park
Hello! My name is Reese Park. I’m from Austin, Texas. As a result of living in Texas I’ve been witness to the vast disparity in opportunities between permanent citizens and displaced peoples. Seeing the unfair disadvantages faced by underprivileged groups has fueled my passion for public service which I hope to pursue through the Education Refuge. My main goals are to recruit mentors, create English lesson plans, and teach advanced grammar. I’m hoping to use my position to help as much as I can with creating opportunities for both our students and our mentors.
Hunter Mendoza
Hello, my name is Hunter Mendoza. I am the Lead Director of the Open Rooms, as well as one of the lead teachers for the Education Refuge. I initially joined the organization as a tutor before co-founding the Open Rooms and expanding from there. In my free time, I can be found running track, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with my dogs.

Luke Watkins
Hello! My name is Luke Watkins and I am the Director of Personnel, Operating Manager of the Open Rooms, and one of the lead teachers for the Education Refuge. This project has been a personal passion for me as I get to connect with people from all over the world. When I’m not working on the Education Refuge I am excelling academically, running track, lifeguarding at Barton Springs, teaching swim lessons, or playing the drums.
